Best Oranges for Juicing

You can use any type of oranges you love for juicing, but here are a few of the best and most popular types:

  • Valencia oranges: these oranges are very popular for juicing. They are sweet and the juice will store well in the fridge without becoming bitter.
  • Tangerines: these are small and very sweet and delicious for juicing. Tangerines are also readily available in the Fall and Winter making them a great option for juicing.
  • Blood oranges: these types of oranges are vibrant red inside making them beautiful to use in a juice. They also tend to be a very flavourful orange.

Tip: if using navel oranges for juicing, you’ll want to consume your juice within 24 hours. Navel oranges have a compound in them called limonin which can produce a bitter taste in the juice over time.

How to Make Orange Carrot Juice with a Blender

While having a juicer is a fun kitchen gadget to have on hand if you’re making a lot of juice, many of us don’t have the space to store a juicer. Plus they can be a little pricey.

Luckily, you don’t need a juicer to make fresh juice at home. All you need is a blender and something to strain the juice with (an almond milk bag, cheesecloth or fine strainer all work well.)

Step 1

Peel the carrots, oranges and ginger and add everything to your blender.

Tip: store the oranges in the fridge before juicing them to give you orange juice that is nice and cold.

Step 2

Blend on high until the mixture comes together. If you are having trouble getting everything to blend, it’s likely that your oranges aren’t very juicy. In this case, you can add more oranges to the blender or add a splash of water to help everything blend together.

Step 3

Grab a large bowl and a strainer, nut milk bag or cheesecloth. Pour the juice through your strainer or bag. If using a nut milk bag or cheesecloth, use your hands to gently squeeze the juice through.

Step 4

Transfer the juice directly to glasses or to a jug to store in the fridge. Serve as is or over ice.

Tips for making this Immune System Booster Drink perfectly

  • Use juicy oranges. Some batches of oranges may not be as juicy as others. The juicer the oranges the more juice you’ll get. If your oranges don’t seem that juicy, you can always add a few more oranges to the recipe.
  • Peel the oranges. Unlike with a juicer, when making juice in a blender the oranges need to be peeled.
  • Customize it. If there are any other fruits or vegetables you’d like to add to this juice go ahead!

How to Store Orange Carrot Juice

Store juice in a sealed large jar or bottle in the fridge for up to a week. Before drinking, give the juice a shake in the bottle. It’s natural for some sediments to fall to the bottom of the juice.

Juicing FAQ

Is carrot and orange juice good for you?

Yes! Carrot and Orange juice is packed with vitamins and nutrients and is part of a healthy diet enjoyed in moderation.

Do you peel oranges before juicing?

If using a traditional juicer, you don’t have to peel the oranges. However, I prefer to peel the oranges as the peel can give the juice a bitter taste. If using a blender, you will need to peel the oranges.

What happens if you drink carrot juice every day?

Carrot juice contains beta-carotene, which if you consume too much of can temporarily cause a yellowish tint to the skin. In this recipe, there are not enough carrots to worry about this condition.

How much orange juice should I drink a day?

Unless you are doing a juice cleanse, it is recommended to have 1-2 cups (250-500ml) of juice per day.

My blender juice is thick and won’t blend. What do I do?

If your blender juice is too thick and having trouble blending, it’s likely because your oranges aren’t big and juicy enough. In this case, add more oranges to the blender and proceed with this recipe. You can also add a splash of water to help everything blend together.

Can I change the ratios of this juice?

Absolutely! If you prefer to have more carrots or ginger in this juice you can always add more. Just keep in mind that if you add too many carrots the juice may have trouble blending since carrots aren’t as juicy as oranges.

Can I make this recipe in my juicer?

Absolutely! If you have a juicer at home them simply add all the ingredients directly to your juicer.
