Description

This Dragon Fruit Smoothie is packed with tropical flavours and is perfect for a refreshing breakfast or snack!

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1/2 cup pink dragon fruit, frozen
  • 1/2 cup mango cubes, frozen
  • 1/2 banana, frozen
  • juice of 1/2 lime
  • 1/31/2 cup light coconut milk

Optional add-ins

  • 1 tbsp chia seeds
  • 1 tbsp hemp seeds
  • 1/2 tbsp ground flax seeds
  • 1 scoop protein powder
  • 1 tbsp almond butter
  • 1 tbsp honey or agave
  • 1/4 cup plain yogurt (dairy-free if needed)

Instructions

  1. Let the frozen fruit thaw on the counter for 5 minutes to let it soften slightly.
  2. Add the coconut milk, lime juice, dragon fruit, mango and banana to a high-speed blender and blend until smooth and creamy.
  3. Pour into a large glass and enjoy!

Notes

Add liquids to the bottom of the blender first, followed by fresh ingredients, followed by add ins (protein powder, nut butters, seeds…etc.) followed by frozen ingredients. This will make it easier for your blender to blend everything together.

If using frozen fruit, let it thaw for 5-10 minutes first. You want the fruit to still be frozen, just ever-so slightly defrosted. This will make it easier to blend and will make the smoothie creamy.

Use more liquid if using frozen fruit and less liquid with fresh fruit. Since fresh fruit is packed with water, if you add too much coconut milk you’ll end up with a very thin smoothie. Alternatively, frozen fruit will require more liquid for blending.

Freeze your own fruit! Some store-bought frozen mango or other fruits can be a little bland. If you want a super flavourful smoothie try freezing your own mango and bananas when they’re at your desired ripeness. They’ll taste much better!
