Customize this papaya banana smoothie

There are so many ways you can customize this papaya smoothie! You can add any additional ingredients you love to this smoothie, or swap out ingredients in the smoothie for different ingredients you like. Here are some easy ways you can customize this smoothie recipe.

  • Add protein: make this smoothie a complete meal by adding protein powder or a 1/2 cup of plain yogurt.
  • Make it without a banana. Don’t like bananas? No problem! Make this papaya smoothie banana-free by swapping out the banana for some frozen mango or pineapple.
  • Add superfoods. Try adding a scoop of collagen powder, (I use plant-based collagen) hemp seeds, flax seeds, bee pollen or any other superfoods you love!
  • Make it a green papaya smoothie. Add a large handful of spinach leaves or chopped kale to this smoothie to make it a green smoothie with a serving of veggies.

Expert smoothie-making tips

  • Use frozen bananas. For this smoothie, it’s important to use frozen bananas to help thicken the smoothie and give it a creamy texture. I like to freeze a batch of bananas to keep stored in the freezer for making smoothies.
  • Use ripe papaya. Papaya that hasn’t ripened fully is pretty bland in taste, so make sure to use ripe papaya.
  • Add ice if needed. If the smoothie isn’t thick enough, you can also add a handful of ice cubes.
  • Swap out coconut milk for any milk. If you don’t like the taste of coconut, just swap out the coconut milk for almond milk or any other type of milk you like.
