What Is A Pina Colada Smoothie?
A Pina Colada Smoothie is a creamy, fruity beverage inspired by the popular cocktail. It combines the tropical flavours of pineapple, creamy coconut, and sweet banana, blended together to create a creamy and refreshing smoothie. This non-alcoholic version of the cocktail can be enjoyed for breakfast, a snack or dessert.
My favourite way to enjoy this smoothie is during the summertime sitting outside. There’s nothing better on a warm summer day than a refreshing smoothie, smoothie bowl, or popsicle. And when you’re looking for a smoothie that’s *extra* refreshing with a tropical twist, you’re going to want a glass of this Pina Colada Smoothie!

Ingredients For A Pineapple Coconut Smoothie
- Pineapple: Bursting with tropical sweetness and rich in vitamin C and antioxidants, pineapple adds a refreshing zing to this smoothie.
- Banana: Creamy and naturally sweet, bananas provide a smooth texture while offering a dose of potassium and fibre.
- Coconut Milk: Coconut milk infuses this smoothie with a rich tropical flavour and adds a velvety smoothness without the need for dairy. I use light canned coconut milk in this recipe but you’re welcome to substitute with any type of coconut milk you like.
How to make a Pina Colada Smoothie
Step 1
Add the coconut milk, pineapple and banana to a high-speed blender.
Tip: add the coconut milk to the blender first, followed by any fresh ingredients and frozen ingredients on top. This will make it easier for your blender to blend everything together.
Step 2
Blend on high until smooth and creamy. If the smoothie is too thick to blend, add an extra splash of coconut milk.
Step
Divide between two glasses and enjoy! You can optionally garnish the glass with a slice of pineapple or a sprinkle of shredded coconut!

Expert Tips For Making A Pina Colada Smoothie
- Use Frozen Fruit: For a thicker and frostier consistency, opt for frozen pineapple and banana slices instead of fresh.
- Adjust Consistency: Control the thickness of your smoothie by adding more or less coconut milk to achieve your desired texture.
- Sweeten to Taste: Depending on the ripeness of your fruit, you may not need any additional sweeteners. However, feel free to add a drizzle of honey or maple syrup if desired.
- Blend Well: To ensure a silky smooth texture, blend the ingredients thoroughly, pausing to scrape down the sides of the blender if necessary.
- Serve Immediately: Enjoy your Pina Colada Smoothie fresh from the blender for the best taste and texture.
- Mix It Up: Feel free to add protein powder, nut butter, seeds, or any mix-ins you love to this smoothie to make it more of a meal smoothie.
