This Coconut Cloud Smoothie is a homemade version of the Coconut Cloud smoothie from Erewhon market that is actually easy to make at home and much cheaper. It comes together in just 5 mnutes and can be customized with mix-ins to your taste.

I love making quick breakfast smoothie recipes in the morning for a nourishing light breakfast, or even for a midday snack. Whether it’s a Matcha Green Tea Smoothie, Berry Protein Smoothie, or Chocolate Banana Smoothie, Smoothies are quick, nutritious, and delicious.

If you’re looking to add a vibrant twist to your smoothie routine, then you’re in for a treat with my dupe for the Erewhon market coconut cloud smoothie. It’s made with blue spirulina powder which gives it a beautiful blue colour, blended with banana pineapple and coconut milk.

You can find blue spirulina powder at health food stores or on Amazon. Green spirulina powder also works here but will give you a green smoothie. You can also leave this out completely, it really just adds colour, not taste.

Recipe Highlights

  • Nutrient rich: Spirulina adds a nutritional punch to your smoothie, making it a wholesome snack option.
  • Cheaper than Erewhon: This smoothie at Eerewhon costs a whopping $20! We’re making it right at home for a fraction of the cost (about $3 a serving)
  • Quick and Easy: This smoothie only has a few ingredients and just takes 5 minutes to make!

Ingredient Notes

Ingredients for a coconut cloud smoothie.
  • Frozen Banana: It’s important your bananas are frozen. This helps thicken the smoothie and make it creamy. I like to freeze my bananas and have them on hands for smoothies like this or my Date and Banana Smoothie!
  • Frozen Pineapple: If you only have fresh on hand it will work too, but reduce the amount of coconut milk since pineapple contains a lot of liquid.
  • Avocado: I love adding avocado to smoothies like this one or my Avocado and Mango Smoothie. It adds creaminess and healthy fats for satiety.
  • Blue Spirulina: This is the ingredient that gives this smoothie the beautiful blue colour. It doesn’t add much taste so if you don’t want to buy it you can simply leave it out.
  • Coconut milk: I recommend canned full fat coconut milk for this smoothie. You’ll use the extra cream from the top of the can to decorate the glass. (Again this is optional, but gives it that iconic “cloud” look!)

Step 2: Blend until smooth and creamy.

Recipe Variations

  • More protein: Boost the protein of your smoothie by adding a scoop of your favourite protein powder, Greek yogurt or cottage cheese.
  • Banana-Free: If you’re not a fan of bananas or looking to reduce your sugar intake, swap out the banana for frozen mango or extra avocado for creaminess.

Jess’s Tips

  • Use Frozen Fruit: Opt for frozen banana and pineapple to create a thick and creamy texture.
  • Choose your banana ripeness: Choose a ripe banana for a sweeter smoothie or a less ripe one for a milder flavour.
  • Layer Ingredients: Add liquids first, followed by fresh ingredients, then frozen ingredients to blend more smoothly.
  • Customize Add-Ins: Tailor your smoothie by adding extras like protein powder like I add to this Green Protein Smoothie, flax seeds, or collagen powder.
  • Enjoy Fresh: While you can prep ingredients in advance, it’s best to enjoy your smoothie freshly made for optimal taste and texture.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will this coconut cloud smoothie taste good without spirulina?

Yes! Spirulina doesn’t add much taste here, just colour. So feel free to omit it if needed. It will still taste delicious.

Can I use a different type of milk instead of coconut milk?

Yes, however it will change the flavour. Use any type of milk you love. You can also use some Greek yogurt swirled onto your glass to create a “cloud” effect.
