Selecting the flavorful watermelon is VERY important for the success of your slushie. Since this slushie is made with just 2 ingredients, if the watermelon you chose is bland, then the slushie will turn out to be bland. Here are some tips to choosing a ripe and flavorful watermelon:

  1. Pick a watermelon that feels heavy for its size
  2. The watermelon should have a deep yellow/orange field spot.
  3. When you tap the watermelon it should have a hollow sound.
  4. The skin of the watermelon should be dull, and not shiny.

With these tips, you should be able to select the perfect watermelon for a delicious watermelon slushie!

Jess’s Tips

  • Prep Ahead: Cut your watermelon into chunks and freeze them in a single layer on a baking sheet before transferring to a freezer bag. This ensures quick blending and prevents clumping.
  • Add Liquid Sparingly: Start with a small amount of lime juice and adjust according to your taste preferences. You can always add more, but you can’t take it away!
  • Texture Matters: For a slushie with the perfect consistency, blend the frozen watermelon in short pulses until it reaches a slushy texture. Avoid over-blending, or you’ll end up with a watery slushie.
  • Sweeten Naturally: If your watermelon isn’t as sweet as you’d like, try adding a touch of honey or agave syrup to sweeten the slushie.
  • Garnish: Garnish your slushie with a wedge of lime, a sprig of mint, or a slice of watermelon on the rim of the glass.

This hit the spot and was way more refreshing than I expected. It only took a few minutes to make and came out light, icy, and really satisfying. I’ve already made it a couple times when I wanted something cold and fruity without a ton of effort. Definitely keeping this one in my back pocket.
