An Easy Mediterranean Pizza Recipe

Mediterranean flavours are one of my favorite to cook with. I typically love making fresh salads with these flavors, like my Mediterranean Chickpea Salad, Mediterranean Quinoa Saladand Mediterranean Pasta Salad. But today I’m taking the flavors of the Mediterranean and adding them to pizza!

This Mediterranean Pizza Recipe is made with store-bought pizza dough (or you can use pre-made pizza crust) to keep it quick and easy. This recipe makes for a delicious veggie-packed meal the whole family will love!

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • Bursting with flavor: The combination of feta, tomatoes, and olives makes every bite salty, savoury and delicious.
  • Healthy and wholesome: Loaded with fresh veggies and Mediterranean-inspired ingredients, this pizza is a nutritious alternative to traditional options.
  • Customizable: Use your favorite toppings like artichokes, roasted red peppers, or sun-dried tomatoes to make it your own.
  • Quick and easy: Made with store-bought dough, this pizza comes together in under 30 minutes!
  • Great for meal prep: Leftovers store well and can be easily reheated for a quick meal.

Key Ingredients and Substitutions

Ingredients for mediterranean pizza

  • Pizza Dough: I use store-bought dough to make this recipe quick and easy. You can find pizza dough in the fridge or freezer section at most grocery stores. You can also use pre-made pizza crust for this recipe.
  • Pizza Sauce: Pick your favorite store-bought pizza sauce or tomato sauce!
  • Mozzarella Cheese: I recommended using freshly grated mozzarella for pizza. Pre-shredded cheese doesn’t melt as well and won’t give you that stringy melty top!
  • Mediterranean Vegetables: I like to use red onions, Kalamata olives, sun-dried tomatoes, and red peppers. Feel free to mix these up for any veggie toppings you like!
  • Feta Cheese: You can use cow or goat’s milk feta cheese. You can crumble the feta yourself or buy it pre-crumbled. Both will work fine.

Additional Topping Ideas

Take your Mediterranean pizza to the next level with these delicious add-ons:

  • Protein options: Add grilled chicken, shrimp, or chickpeas for extra protein.
  • Extra veggies: Try roasted zucchini, eggplant, or caramelized onions.
  • Cheese variations: Swap feta for goat cheese or Parmesan.
  • Drizzles and garnishes: Top with a drizzle of tzatziki, balsamic glaze, or a handful of arugula after baking, or serve with a side of Homemade Healthy Hummus or Whipped Feta Dip.

How to Store and Reheat

Storing:

  • Refrigerate: Store leftover pizza slices in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days.
  • Freeze: Let the pizza cool completely. Wrap individual slices in plastic wrap and store in a freezer-safe bag for up to 2 months.

Reheating:

  • Reheat in the oven: Preheat to 375°F. If heating refrigerated pizza, bake for 5-6 minutes. If heating from frozen, bake 8-10 minutes until heated through and crispy.
  • Reheat in a skillet: Heat on medium-low in a covered pan for 5 minutes to keep the crust crispy. (*This method is not recommended if reheating frozen pizza. It’s best to reheat frozen pizza in the oven.)

Jess’s Tips

  1. Preheat your oven and pizza pan: Bake at 500°F with a preheated pizza pan for a crispy crust.
  2. Lightly flour your surface before rolling: this will prevent the dough from sticking to the surface you’re rolling it out on.
  3. Roll the dough evenly and thin: The crust will puff up as the pizza bakes, so it’s best to roll the dough out thin and as evenly as possible to ensure even cooking.
  4. Avoid overloading with toppings: Too many toppings can make the pizza soggy and fall apart.
  5. Use fresh herbs: Add fresh basil or parsley after baking for some freshness.
  6. Let it rest before slicing: Allowing the pizza to cool for a few minutes after baking helps the toppings set and prevents a soggy crust.
