When I first shared this Cinnamon Apple Bread on the Choosing Chia Instagram, it instantly went viral with over 2 millions of views and thousands of comments from people asking for the recipe.

This apple bread recipe is soft, fluffy like my Healthy Maple Pumpkin Bread, and is swirled with cinnamon apples that make every bite taste like a cozy fall treat.

My secret is using applesauce in the batter, which keeps the bread extra moist without needing loads of butter or oil. Whether you enjoy it as a snack, breakfast, or dessert, this is one of those recipes you’ll find yourself making again and again!

Recipe Highlights

  • Autumn vibes: This Cinnamon Apple Bread is cozy, comforting, and filled with all the warm flavours you crave on a crisp fall day. Enjoy it on its own or with a cup of coffee or homemade chai latte.
  • Easy to make: No stand mixer required! Just a couple of bowls and a whisk.
  • Freezer-friendly: If you happen to have leftovers, this loaf freezes beautifully for up to 2 months. Slice it before freezing for easy grab-and-go snacks.
  • Cinnamon roll meets apple crisp: With swirls of cinnamon sugar and apples, this bread tastes like a mix between my Healthy Apple Crisp and Cinnamon Roll Overnight Oats, two reader favourites!

Key Ingredients

  • Flour: you can use all-purpose flour in this recipe, half whole wheat flour and half all-purpose flour, or a 1-1 gluten-free flour blend. (This means it can be substituted equally for regular flour.)
  • Applesauce: use unsweetened applesauce for this recipe. You can use either store-bought or homemade applesauce. Use any leftover applesauce to make a batch of Healthy Apple Pie Bars.
  • Apples: I like to use granny smith, McIntosh or Honeycrisp apples.

Step 7: Bake the Apple Cinnamon Bread in the oven at 350 degrees F for 45-54 minutes.

How to store and freeze

Store covered at room temperature for 2–3 days or in the fridge for up to 5 days. To freeze, let the bread cool completely, wrap tightly, and freeze for up to 2 months. Thaw on the countertop then warm in the oven before serving.

Jess’s Tips

  • Cool the butter first: Make sure the melted butter is at room temperature before mixing it in. If it’s too hot, it can cook the eggs and change the texture of the batter.
  • Mix gently: Overmixing creates dense bread. Stir the batter just until the wet and dry ingredients are combined.
  • Check doneness: Insert a toothpick into the centre of the loaf, it should come out clean or with a few crumbs. If it comes out wet, bake a little longer.
  • Cool before slicing: Let the bread rest in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack and cool for at least 30–60 minutes. Slicing too early can make it crumble.
  • Slice as you go: Keep the loaf whole and cut slices as needed to help it stay moist and fresh longer.
  • Make it your own: Add chopped nuts, raisins, or chocolate chips like I add to this Healthy Chocolate Pumpkin Bread for extra flavour and texture.
  • Turn it into muffins: Use a muffin tin instead of a loaf pan. Layer the batter and cinnamon apples into lined muffin cups and bake at 350°F for 18–22 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.

Frequently Asked Questions

What apples are best for Cinnamon Apple Bread?

Apples that hold their texture work best, like Granny Smith, Gala, Honeycrisp, McIntosh, Fuji, or Pink Lady.

Why is my apple bread so dense?

If your apple bread is dense, it’s likely because you overmixed the batter. Overmixing will pop all the air bubbles in the batter leaving you with a dense bread.

Please please let me know if one can use ‘flax eggs’ and xylitol (plus extra liquid) in this recipe.
Forgive me for asking about substitutes in such a delicious recipe nut you seem sooo experienced just had to take a chance you might know.
    Appreciste you!

    1. Jess says:

Hi Tabia, I haven’t tested out this recipe with a flax egg, so I can’t be certain if it will alter the texture. That being said I’ve used flax eggs in replacement of eggs in some of my muffin recipes and that turns out fine! You should be able to substitute xylitol with no problems 🙂

  10. Cassie Thuvan Tran says:

Wow, I absolutely bet that each slice just has a blasting power of flavor and spice! Cinnamon and apples are seriously the best fall combination, aside from pumpkin pie spice and EVERYTHING LOL! I would love to spread a giant slather of peanut butter on top of one slice…or the entire loaf. Just maybe.

    1. Jess says:

Yes! One of my favourite combos too Cassie! So yummy!
