After my Greek Yogurt Chocolate Mousse went viral, I knew I had to try a peanut butter version. I wanted something that had the same creamy, mousse-like texture but tasted like a peanut butter cup.
The base is simple: Greek yogurt, powdered peanut butter, maple syrup, vanilla and a pinch of salt whipped together until smooth with the option to add in some vanilla pudding mix. I tested it with both regular peanut butter and powdered peanut butter, and both are great. Powdered peanut butter gives you a lighter texture with more protein and fewer calories, while regular peanut butter makes it a little richer.
I also tested it with and without a spoonful of vanilla pudding mix, which is completely optional but gives the mousse an extra thick, fluffy texture.
However you make it, this peanut butter mousse comes together in one bowl with no cooking, no baking and no waiting around. It’s the kind of thing you can throw together for a quick snack, a make-ahead dessert, or even a protein-packed breakfast.
Key Ingredients

Greek Yogurt: I use 2% Greek yogurt for an extra creamy base but any percentage fat will work. The important thing is to use thick Greek yogurt. This is the same yogurt I love to use to make Greek Yogurt Tiramisu.
Peanut butter: Powdered peanut butter can be found at most grocery stores in the health food aisle or bought online like on Amazon. It’s a great pantry staple to have and can be mixed into recipes like Peanut Butter Oatmeal and Peanut Butter Chia Pudding. If you prefer to use traditional peanut butter it works great too! You’ll need 3 tablespoons only.
Instant vanilla pudding mix: If you don’t want to go out out your way to purchase this the mousse is delicious without it. I’ve been using this mix in recipes like my Key Lime Pie Pudding Jars and Strawberry Cheesecake Pudding Jars and it really just bumbs up the “mousse” like texture. You can get a sugar-free version of this pudding mix too if you prefer.
How To Make High Protein Peanut Butter Mousse
*This is a recipe overview. The full recipe with measurements and instructions can be found below in the recipe card.

Step 1: Add all the ingredients to a clear mixing bowl.

Step 2: Whisk together until no lumps remain.

Step 3: Divide between 4 jars or cups. Top with chocolate or optionally melt the chocolate to create a chocolate shell.
Jess’s Tips
- Use full fat or 2 percent Greek yogurt: it gives the mousse a much creamier, richer texture than fat free yogurt! Use any extra yogurt in a batch of my High Protein Banana Pudding.
- Whisk instead of stir: a good whisk incorporates more air and gets you that true mousse texture.
- A note on salt: if you’re using peanut butter with salt in it you can skip adding additional salt.
- Let the mousse chill: if you’re using the vanilla pudding mix, let the mousse chill in the fridge for another 10 minutes. It’ll make a difference in the final texture.
- Make the chocolate shell right before serving: the melted chocolate sets almost instantly on the cold mousse, so top it just before you dig in for the best crack.
