Avocado Spinach Mango Smoothie

There’s nothing I love more than a refreshing smoothie in the morning to start my day. Smoothies are a great way to get in your fruits and veggies and are great for a lighter breakfast that is still packed full of nutrients.

This Avocado Mango Smoothie has 10 grams of fiber and 4.5 grams of protein per serving .and is packed with vitamin c and potassium, so it will keep you feeling full and satiated all morning long. This smoothie is also made with the addition of spinach (which is totally optional) which gives it a beautiful green colour and an extra boost of nutrition. (I promise you can’t taste it.)

This smoothie recipe is also completely customizable. You can add any fruit you love to it even swap out the mango for another fruit like banana or pineapple. The choice is up to you!

  • Almond milk: you can substitute with any kind of plant-based milk. Light coconut milk is also a delicious option.
  • Honey: substitute maple syrup or agave for a vegan optoin.

How to make an Avocado Mango Smoothie

Step 1

Add all the smoothie ingredients to a high-speed blender. Add the almond milk first, followed by the fresh ingredients and then frozen ingredients for easy blending.

Blend on high until smooth and creamy for about 30 seconds. If the smoothie is too thick, add a bit more almond milk.

Pour into a glass and enjoy it right away while it’s fresh!

How much avocado can I add to my smoothie?

A good rule of thumb is about half of a small avocado, or a quarter of a large avocado. This will give you a good amount of nutrients and one full serving of avocado per cup. If you add an entire avocado to a single serving of a smoothie, it will be quite high in calories.

Tips for making this recipe perfectly

  • For easy blending, add liquids to the blender first, followed by fresh ingredients and then frozen ingredients. Adding the liquid to a blender first will help it blend everything together more easily.
  • Use soft avocados. If your avocados are too firm and not ripe yet, they won’t add as much creaminess to the smoothie. An avocado is ripe when it’s slightly soft to the touch.
  • Use flavourful ripe mangos. A smoothie will only taste as good as the fruit you add to it. If you use bland tasting mangos, the smoothie won’t be very tasty.
  • Want to make this smoothie high in protein? Add a scoop of your favourite protein powder.
  • You may need to adjust the amount of liquid used. This will depend on how frozen your fruit is, if you use fresh or frozen avocado and your preferred smoothie consistency. Start with one cup of almond milk and then add more as needed until the smoothie blends smoothly.
  • Customize the fruit as needed. You can add whatever fruits you like to this smoothie or swap out the mango for another fruit. Just keep in mind that if you use any darker coloured fruits like blueberries or blackberries the smoothie will not be a vibrant green.

How to Freeze Avocado for Smoothies

Cut the avocado into large cubes and then transfer to a freezer bag. Place the bag in the freezer right away. The avocado will last about a month in the freezer. When you’re ready to use your avocado in a smoothie just remove a few cubes of the avocado from the freezer bag and add directly to your blender.

Can you blend avocado and freeze it?

Yes. If you want to blend avocado and freeze it I recommend freezing blended avocado into silicon ice cube trays. When you want to use the blended frozen avocado just pop out a frozen cube and use it as you’d like!

How long do smoothies last?

Fresh fruit and vegetable smoothies unfortunately do not last that long after blending. I don’t recommend storing a smoothie in the fridge for more than one day. After that, it tends to not taste very fresh.

Yes! Raw spinach blends really well into smoothies and is a great way to add extra nutrients to your smoothie.

Can you eat mango and avocado together?

Yes. Mango and avocado pair very well together and will give you plenty of healthy vitamins and minerals all in one shot! Since mangos are high in sugar, it’s great to pair them with a food that is high in healthy fats to give you long-lasting energy.

Will avocado turn brown in a smoothie?

Avocados turn brown because the enzymes in the fresh react when exposed to oxygen. This process starts to happen as soon as avocado is cut open and can also turn your smoothie slightly brown (don’t worry, the smoothie won’t turn totally brown, just slightly less of vibrant green.) if the smoothie is left sitting out too long. The best way to prevent this if you don’t plan on drinking your smoothie right away is to add a squeeze of lemon juice to the smoothie.

Can you taste avocado in a smoothie?

Not really. The avocado flavour is very subtle and is mostly covered up by the mango. The avocado does add some richness and creaminess to the smoothie which gives it a great texture!
